A section with ten films with a common theme: “Only Laughing.” The films are matched to and introduced by relevant personalities from the film, culture and science fields. Philosophers, artists, theologians, filmmakers, storytellers, actors and actresses, writers discuss it with the audience from their own point of view.


Carta bianca
Carte Blanche
Screenwriter and director Paul Haggis will be the special guest of the seventh edition of the Alba International Film Festival.
Haggis will be in Alba to present a Carte Blanche of 8 titles personally chosen and a selection of some of best works.


Andar per film
Going for films
Competitive section including ten titles (both fiction films and documentaries) produced all across the world in the last two years, unreleased in Italy and directed by a director at its first or second work. The prize of 10,000 euros will be awarded according to the audience vote.


Ricerca esistenziale
Music and existenzial research
A research project realized by Associazione Progetto Infinity (former Associazione per il Festival del cinema spirituale), in partnership with Associazione Polis. The partners will promote a music concert in day March 8th, at 4 p.m. in Fondazione Ferrero, Alba, by Orchestra Esagramma, an orchestra entirely composed by disable musicians, preside by Pierangelo Sequeri and Licia Sbattella.
The performance will be preceeded by a conversation between Pierangelo Sequeri and the philosopher Umberto Galimberti.
The two associations will also promote the coordination between the film festival and the publishing of a book collection including art and culture anthropological works, realized in cooperation with several Italian and European universities.


Fictionscape
A tree-day long meeting of critical reflection and discussion on how TV fiction is made in Italy today. The productive circumstances, the dramaturgical choices, the economical contexts and the audiences, while also examining the differences between Italian fiction and what is produced abroad.

24 Remix
In day March 8th, Woman’s Day, the Festival will promote 8 Woman is a Mistery, a night-long marathon of TV films dedicated to comic female characters in history of television. In the wonderful scenario of the Teatro sociale G. Busca, Alba, starting from 10.30 p.m., Ally McBeal, Grace, la Tata, Lucy, Mary Tyler Moore, Dharma, and others, will be the protagonists of one of the most funny and important events of the Festival.


Last evening
During the award winning ceremony of the Festival, two films of young directors from Alba will be screened at the Fondazione Ferrero, at 18. The documentary KBB - Indagine su uno spiedino al di sopra di ogni sospetto directed by the group Nipoti Lumiére and Piove byEmanuele Caruso.


Circus
A traveling course organized by Scuola Holden and the film production branch of Fandango. Circus is a primary school of cinema, an approach march, a way to get closer to and satisfy curiosity about a world made up of many different professions.

Masterclass
Paul Haggis will be the protagonist of a lesson in day Friday March 7th, during which he will talk about his work in cinema and television. The protagonist of another masterclass will be the Italian director Carlo Mazzacurati.

Alba Projects
From 12 to 15 documentary and fiction projects in development will be presented monday 10th of march to 20 invited producers, sales agents and distributors from all Europe, during one to one meetings programmed in advance.
Projects will be selected by Premio Solinas, the best known Italian prize for scriptwriters, by the tutors of Script&Pitch Workshops, a Media funded scriptwriting advanced course for professionals and the internationally renowed Binger Film Lab.

Script&Pitch Workshops
A post-graduate course open to professional European scriptwriters, story editors, and graduates from European film schools, writer-directors, writer-producers and development executives. During the Fstival there will be the first meeting of the workshop.
